Hi, I’m Deronte. Yes, I have a bunch of accolades nobody cares about. I’ve won festivals, I’ve won awards, I have a bestselling kids’ novel…yada, yada. So what?
But what does matter is that I can help you take advantage of the shift in the marketplace NOW and it’s all because of COVID. No joke.
You can go from being the laughing stock around your house, and bumming money off your friends because you’re “the struggling artist” to being the hero of your own story. Yes, you can win! And I am on a mission to help as many people as I can do just that.
A bit about me, I am a serial entrepreneur – an ideas guy. I get stuff done. It started at the age of three when I sold my mother’s sunglasses to a stranger. The offer was so good she took the money and an entrepreneur was born! Ha!
It was a paltry five dollars a week but I saved my money and bought a 1973 Chevy Chevelle with the big block engine when I turned 16. Yep, you guessed it!
Then at the age of nine, I had my first business taking my neighbor’s trash bins to the curb.
It was way too much car for a 16-year-old with raging testosterone; I found that out when I crashed the car into the side of our house. The dream was short-lived but I did make it happen nonetheless.
Years later I started an advertising agency with a college buddy selling coupon spots on paper inserts with DVD rentals at the local BlockBuster (pre-Netflix)
The business blew up! But with no business savvy or contracts in place, my slimy business partner ripped me off, ran off with the idea, the money, and stuck me with $90k in debt.
Ouch! Not pretty. And I was still studying at the university. Beyond that incident, I’ve hit actual rock bottom twice.
In 2001, I was at the top of my game.
I made considerable money with my newly minted film business making commercials and music videos, I had purchased a rental condo on the beachfront in Negril, Jamaica a year earlier, and money was flowing.
Unfortunately, I was overleveraged when Black Monday hit and the stock market crashed just after 9/11. I lost $200k overnight. I nearly went bankrupt, ironically, years later I did.
In 2008 I left a comfy position as a mortgage broker for a big firm in Atlanta. Yet again, money was flowing.
I had a nice cushion stashed aside, my new wife and I had three homes between the two of us, and I had a booming publishing business AND film production company.
It couldn’t get any better, right?
Then the market crashed yet again, and business came to a standstill. Anything I had going that was making money ceased to produce a dime. It was ugly, uglier than the last time because this time I had a wife, and let’s just say she wasn’t a happy camper.
After a couple of years of trying my very best to weather the storm, I had to let my lifestyle go. We gave up the properties, the cars, etc., and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Yep, I was broke. Life was hell. And it all culminated with a very messy divorce.
My saving grace…
Many years before I had started on my journey in video and film production, and somehow I managed to keep hope alive. I didn’t know how I would do it but I managed to keep going.
